Concert Charts: Fierce Showing By Beyonce On Top Tours List

Beyoncé takes over the No. 1 slot on Hot Tours rankings for the latest reporting week with box office totals arriving for her "I Am..." world tour. AEG Live, the promoter of the tour's European leg reports more than $23 million in ticket sales, including four sellouts at London's O2 Arena and four more sellouts at Dublin's O2. European totals from April, May and early June were all reported by AEG during the past week, so combined with more recent U.S. shows promoted by Live Nation, Beyoncé easily lands in the top spot on this week's rankings. With reported grosses topping $36 million since the tour began, her show ranks among the top 15 grossing tours of the year, with still more dates scheduled into the fall.

The summer amphitheater season is well underway and four tours earning spots in the top 10 made stops in North American outdoor venues. Veteran English band Def Leppard is on the road with Poison and Cheap Trick providing support and five of their shed dates chart this week. The Vans Warped Tour kicks off its 15th year with strong initial totals come in for six of its shows. A summer co-headlining package featuring Kid Rock and Lynyrd Skynyrd lands on the chart with totals from four venues. Their "Rock and Rebels Tour II," promoted by Live Nation, is a follow-up to last year's successful outing together. Omaha rockers 311 just wrapped this year's Unity Tour with Ziggy Marley and The Expendables. The seven shows reported during the past week top $1.5 million in ticket sales.

C.J.: Beyoncé is good for biz

Beyoncé's nephew is a Rebel Ink Baby.

"MY AUNTIE ROCKS" T-shirts, created by Todd Turfler, have been flying out of his St. Paul store (rebelinkbaby.com) since various websites published a photo of Beyoncé's nephew Julez wearing the shirt Monday (tinyurl.com/m2nv8j). "I'm not sure if she picked it up at one of the boutiques or if she got it online or if a customer sent it," Turfler told me Friday, "but one of my customers sent me the link Tuesday saying, This is your shirt. Sure enough, it is. We have been running around the country, Vegas, Atlanta, New York, doing the baby shows and we sell to boutiques around the country. I did contact Beyoncé's publicity and Matthew Knowles, her manager and father, down in Houston, trying to get more shirts to the nephew."

Rowland: 'there is no destiny's child reunion'

Kelly Rowland has dismissed reports she and her former bandmates Beyonce and Michelle Williams are working on one final Destiny'S Child album, urging eager fans to "simmer down".
The Independent Women hitmakers parted ways in 2005 to embark on solo careers.

Rumours recently surfaced claiming the trio was heading back into the recording studio to make a fifth studio disc because they were said to be contractually obliged to Sony Music subsidiary Columbia Records to deliver another project.

But Rowland insists there is no such album or contract clause - and there has been no talk of a reunion just yet.

She tells the NYPost.com's PopWrap blog, "There is no Destiny’s Child album in the works. None of us have talked about an album or anything. And until we do, no one else should worry about it. Simmer down now!"

All three members have achieved success in their own right since the band's split. Rowland is juggling her singing career with presenting duties for reality TV's The Fashion Show; Williams is currently starring in the West End stage production of Chicago in London, and Beyonce has been wowing audiences with her global I Am... tour, as well as starring in movies like recent thriller Obsessed.

Tom Cruise Does Beyonce! Her dance routine that is…

Tom Cruise has been spotted doing one of Beyonce’s dance routines at her concert.

The Hollywood star, almost as well known for making a tit of himself as he is for his big screen blockbusters, was in attendance the singer’s concert at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, where he showed concert-goers just how much of a fan he is.

After arriving at the gig without wife Katie Holmes, who is busy shooting horror movie Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark in Australia, the 47-year-old waved to fans and took to his seat.

Then midway through the set, when Beyonce launched into her hit Single Ladies, Cruise shocked all those within eye-shot by jumping to his feet and performing the ENTIRE dance routine.

"Everyone was laughing and taking pictures," one concertgoer said.

Thankfully, the sight of a 4-foot Mission Impossible agent shaking his bootylicious behind didn’t prevent Beyonce from continuing the show. She’s a true professional.

NEW YORK, July 15 /PRNewswire/ -- After selling out more than 97% of the North American and international dates on her "I AM..." world concert tour, Queen Of Pop, culture icon Beyonce has decided to set aside 2,500 free tickets for her Detroit concert (July 18, Palace of Auburn Hills) for local families affected by the crisis in the auto industry.

Beyonce rocked $36,000 nails in her “Sweet Dreams” video. And it was probably just for a few hours. The designer of Bijules–Jules Kim–dished on what the snake-themed jeweled nails are all about:

“I designed a set of four nail rings for her that cost about $36,000. I was commissioned to make something unique and special for her. She got a whole set of them. They’re all encrusted in diamonds, and each snake has two rubies for eyes.”

Review: Beyonce dazzles at Oracle Arena

The megastar's near-flawless performance shows why she's the hottest act in pop music.

The 13-piece all-female band was roaring at full throttle. The nine dancers were moving through some crazy bump-and-grind routines. And the capacity crowd was on its feet and singing along at full volume.

The colorful light show was on overdrive and the sound system was cranked so high that it was hard to hear one's own thoughts. The swirl of activity onstage, as well as seemingly in every nook of the arena, was almost too much for the senses to fully absorb.

And then the place started raining sparkly confetti.

It was a moment of pure triumph, one that would've served as a fitting encore. Yet, it was only the first song — Beyonce was just getting started.

In all, the 27-year-old R&B/pop star's show at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, part of her North American "I Am . . . Tour," was the finest pop music spectacle local fans are likely to witness in 2009. Indeed, it was the best show to grace a Bay Area stage since the singer's previous tour touched down at the same venue back in 2007.

After making such a grand entrance with "Crazy in Love," the smash hit off her solo debut, 2003's "Dangerously in Love," the Queen B kept right on buzzing, juggling material, moods and motifs with astounding expertise. It was a two hour crash course in everything that has made Beyonce's career — both as a solo artist and with her old vocal troupe, Destiny's Child — such a joy to behold over the last dozen years.

She was continually able to rise to the occasion for the big hits, such as the sexy "Naughty Girl" and the irresistible "Irreplaceable," and then rise above her more mediocre material, including nearly half the songs she performed from her latest album, 2008's two-disc set "I Am ... Sasha Fierce."

She accomplished the latter with sheer charisma, sweet dance moves, theatrical elements that fit nicely with the music and, of course, a megawatt smile that could light up an arena even during a power outage.

It wasn't always this way. Beyonce took her sweet time learning how to be a first-class entertainer, and some of her earlier tours, both as a solo artist and while leading Destiny's Child, suffered from pacing problems, iffy set lists and a general lack of understanding of how to sell the material to a crowd.

Beyonce, however, has fixed all that and has moved to the front of the class, well ahead of contemporaries like Britney Spears and even veterans like Madonna.

That's not to say she's above borrowing from her fellow divas. She covered Alanis Morissette's angry alt-rock anthem "You Oughta Know" and Sarah McLachlan's folksy pop beauty "Angel," and turned both into highlights. The star also occasionally embraced theatrical elements that wouldn't be out of place at a show by Celine Dion or Sarah Brightman.

Then there was the whole Peter Pan segment toward the end of the show, where Beyonce "flew" from the main stage to a smaller one on the arena floor. We've seen variations on that stunt from dozens of artists, yet Beyonce has the power to make these cliches feel fresh.

It was a perfect show — some of the video segments seemed a little over the top — but it was as close to being a flawless pop-music gem as locals will likely see all year.

Beyonce Gets Crazy, Sexy, Cool In 'Sweet Dreams' VideoB dons flashy clothes and finds new ways to contort her body in her newest clip.

By James Montgomery

It all started with "Ring the Alarm," then picked up steam with subsequent singles (and videos) like "Get Me Bodied," "Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It)" and "Diva." The theory that, somewhere beneath her media-trained demeanor and her well-buffed veneer, Beyoncé was harboring the soul of a wild woman, one who yearns to break free and run screaming through the streets and burn up dance floors and take hostages and drink the blood of her detractors.

Or, you know, something like that.

Needless to say, B would probably be a pretty interesting gal to have a few drinks with. There is no pop star of her level or pedigree that releases the kinds of singles she does — glitchy, careening, hip-shuttering dance tracks — and pairs them with videos that look like Fellini films on fire. She is either the most adventurous megastar on the planet or the most insane. Possibly both.

But aside from the battiness, most of Beyoncé's recent singles — the high-energy ones, at least — have something else in common: They are all great. "Ring the Alarm" and "Bodied" were departures, sure, but they were undeniably catchy tunes, and "Single Ladies" placed second on my Best Songs of 2008 list (and I wasn't the only one to fall in love with its mechanized whomp and mind-melting video — Rolling Stone put it at #1 on their list.) And now you can add another one to her hit list: the just-released "Sweet Dreams."

The song itself isn't particularly new — it actually leaked before the release of Beyoncé's 2008 album I Am ... Sasha Fierce, only back then, it was called "Beautiful Nightmare" — but it's been tapped as the latest single, and in keeping with grand B tradition, it's accompanied by an eye-popping, herky-jerky, high-fashion video, this time directed by Adira Petty (whose résumé includes clips for Duffy and Regina Spektor).

So, once again, we get Beyoncé popping her pelvis in ways never imagined. We get Beyoncé strutting with her two doppelgängers (Ebony Williams and Ashley Everett). And we get Beyoncé wearing about a million flashy, asymmetrical costumes. She expands on her burgeoning robot fetish (which I think is supposed to symbolize her Sasha Fierce alter-ego), flashes the crazy eyes and contorts her body in downright unsettling ways. All of which is to say that "Sweet Dreams" is just like every amazingly crazy Beyoncé video from the past three years, which — to extend the point — also means that it's pretty great.

Oh, and the song — it's great too. The gnarly low end (which kind of sounds like Michael Jackson's "Beat It" for about half a second), the spare snare kicks, the expansive-yet-molecular chorus — sonically, it's as adventurous as anything she's ever released. And her vocals — icy and cool, slippery like mercury — are nothing to scoff at either. All in all, it's another undeniable smash ... sort of unsettling, kind of crazy, totally unlike anything anyone else is doing right now (sorry Gaga). There's truly no one else in the game like Beyoncé, especially when she gives us a peek at her inner freak.

*LOVE THE VIDEO !!!!*

Pop diva Beyoncé returns home to help fight hunger in Houston

HOUSTON -- Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter and actress Beyoncé came back to her hometown of Houston to invite fans to help Feeding America deliver millions of meals to the hungry.

Beyonce Knowles asks hometown fans to help fight hunger in Houston.
Beyoncé asked fans to bring non-perishable food items to her concert on July 4. All donations were given to the Houston Food Bank for distribution to the hungry in our community.

"To know that I can use my voice to do something that helps people makes me feel good," said Beyoncé, when asked why she partnered with General Mills Hamburger Helper to help feed hungry Americans. "There is no better feeling than giving back."

Through her partnership with General Mills Hamburger Helper, Beyonce’ has a goal of helping Feeding America deliver more than 3.5 million meals to local food banks through the Show Your Helping Hand™ campaign.

This is the first year that Beyoncé has teamed up with General Mills, but it's not the first time she has tried to help raise donations for food banks. Pastor Rudy says the superstar has been involved in helping people for years, starting back to the days when she attended St. John's Downtown Church in Houston.

"She grew up sitting in a pew beside hungry people," said Pastor Rudy. "She grew up in a church in downtown Houston."

If you weren't able to drop off a non-perishable food item at the Beyoncé Experience tent prior to her concert, you can still help out by visiting www.shareyourhelpinghand.com and entering the barcode found on specialty marked Hamburger Helper products. For every code entered, $0.18 will be donated to local food banks

Beyonce once again dazzles at Essence Fest

by Keith Spera, Music writer, The Times-Picayune

Late in Beyonce's closing set Friday at the Essence Music Festival, a montage of YouTube clips showed ordinary people mimicking her "Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It)" black leotard video.

Beyonce herself soon appeared and demonstrated that, compared to mere mortals - and most of her pop world peers -- she inhabits an entirely different plane of existence. God bless Britney Spears, but she cannot hold a candle to Beyonce Knowles.

Inside a sold-out Superdome -- reportedly the largest single-night attendance in Essence history -- Beyonce lived up to the legend of her stellar 2007 Essence performance.

Keith I. Marszalek / NOLA.comOn an enormous video screen backdrop -- surely it set a new standard for clarity relative to size -- the 10-foot-tall Beyonce appeared three-dimensional.

Maybe it was the screen. Or maybe it was the charisma.

Her dancing was crisp, clean and perfectly choreographed, even if there was less of it than in '07. She sang -- actually sang. When she broke character, she came across as personable and genuine. And she orchestrated a simple, classy and devastating tribute to Michael Jackson.

The logistics of coordinating multiple acts on one Essence stage meant that Beyonce could not deploy the full production from her current "I Am...Tour." She did not, for instance, "fly" to a remote secondary stage. And her hour-and-a-half Essence set was a truncated version of her usual show; cuts included a Destiny's Child medley.

Her solo catalog was ample enough. And even without her full complement of bells and whistles, Beyonce fronted a jaw-dropping spectacle, the sort of spectacle for which superlatives are reserved.

She presented herself with "Crazy in Love." As in 2007, an entirely female band backed her; males were relegated to her dance troupe. The musicians -- including three percussionists, three horns, and three backing vocalists dubbed "the Mamas" -- navigated the taut arrangements of "Naughty Girl," "Freakum Dress" and "Get Me Bodied."

Against scenes of crashing waves and sunbeams, she stood atop a Plexiglass staircase in a long white robe and sang "Smash Into You." She wrapped herself in Sarah McLachlan's lovely "Angel." In the evening's vocal highlight, she absolutely tore up "Ave Maria" with clarion sustained notes and passion to burn.

Keith I. Marszalek / NOLA.comIn the guise of alter-ego Sasha Fierce, she wore an armored leather bustier and mirrored aviator shades, grabbed her crotch on "If I Were a Boy" and wailed Alanis Morissette's "You Oughta Know" -- but refrained from finishing the explicit "do you think of me when you ..." lyric on the microphone.

Via video, she morphed from robot to leopard; the flesh-and-blood Beyonce subsequently presided over the sparse club beat of "Diva" ("the female version of a hustla"). Vintage video of a precocious grade-school Beyonce butted up against the future-shock "Radio," as gold robot mimes attended two suitcase-sized boomboxes.

"Irreplaceable" opened as an acoustic sing-a-long. Bassist Debbie "Divinity" Walker followed with a five-string bass solo that touched on Jackson's "Smooth Criminal" and "Billie Jean."

Beyonce returned in an evening gown to sing Etta James' "At Last" as scenes from the Civil Rights Movement segued to President Barack Obama's inauguration. She turned over much of "Listen," from the "Dreamgirls" soundtrack, to the audience. Few seemed to know the lyrics; if the show contained a weak moment, "Listen" was it.

For the final "Halo," the woman of the evening ventured into the photographers' pit in front of the stage. Without missing a note, she pressed the flesh along the barricades in what seemed like a farewell gesture.

But no.

As she arrived back on stage, the big screen once again showed her as a 5-year-old. This time, baby Beyonce excitedly announced she was headed to a Michael Jackson concert.

"That night I saw my hero perform," the all-grown-up Beyonce recalled. "When I saw Michael Jackson hit the stage, that's when I decided who I wanted to be. There will only be one Michael Jackson. Long live the king."

A single image of Jackson in his prime - fedora pulled low, grimacing, in mid-step - filled the screen. And Beyonce addressed the remainder of "Halo" to him: "Michael, I can see your halo...I can feel your halo/Pray it won't fade away."

She ended the stunning tribute on her knees. In the audience, tears flowed.

There is little danger that Jackson will recede from memory. Neither will
Beyonce.

*THATS WHY WE CALL HER THE QUEEN*

Beyoncé wants to star in 'Sister Act' remake

.

Beyoncé Knowles wants to star in "Sister Act."

The "Single Ladies" singer is so desperate to dress up as a nun for a remake of the 1992 movie, which was recently turned into a sell-out musical in London's West End theatre district, she is begging Disney bosses to take up the project.

Britain's Daily Mail newspaper reports, "Beyoncé has asked her representatives to persuade Disney to develop the show into a film vehicle for her.

"If this comes to pass, she would take on, in musical form, the part Whoopi Goldberg created in the 1992 "Sister Act" film, although the stage version moves the action from the West Coast to Philadelphia."

The 27-year-old beauty recently took a break from her U.K. "I Am Sasha Fierce tour" to watch the show at the London Palladium theater.
